- Incite a candid loyalty and friendly relations amongst its members and make them aware of the needs and requirements of their colleagues.

Our History

Up until 1973, the M.A.I.W. was in a structuring mode, namely with the formation of the C.A.I.W. From 1973 to 1983, M.A.I.W. strengthened its foundation and grew in importance in the Montreal Insurance World, by preparing and presenting jointly with the Risk and Insurance Management Society, an International Conference. For the past few years, another partnership was born with the Institut d’assurance de dommages du Québec with the organization of an Annual Educational Activity.

The Mildred Jones Award is given each year to the Insurance Woman of the year during the Institut d’assurance de dommages du Québec’s Gala. Each year, the Gala brings together more than 900 important players in the Insurance Industry of Quebec. The Mildred-Jones award was created in 1993 to honour the memory of the late Mildred Jones, Founder and First President of the M.A.I.W. It is awarded to a woman who has distinguished herself, through her involvement and dedication to the Insurance World and by her peers’ recognition.

Time Management being a major concern among business people, M.A.I.W. offers structured activities such as: Public Speaking Contests; Luncheon Meetings and Half-Day Seminars. Since 1979, the M.A.I.W has held a Golf Tournament where hundreds of golf players gather at its Annual Tournament, making it one of the most important Golf Tournaments in the Industry. Further, the M.A.I.W. publishes a regular Bulletin to keep its Members duly informed.

Because of its mission, M.A.I.W. is very proud of its involvement in Charity Organizations. Each year, it holds a Fundraiser and the profits are given to Organizations that help women in need. Since forming M.A.I.W., the accent was put on its participation. Having more than 300 Members, namely Analysts, Lawyers, Brokers, Claims Adjusters, Underwriters and Professional Entrepreneurs, M.A.I.W. was able to keep in touch with its Members and adapt to the changes in our Society. As a result, M.A.I.W. is the largest Member Association of the C.A.I.W.

An Active and Proactive Association!
An Association present at a Canadian level!

As early as 1971, the M.A.I.W. hosted the Canadian Association of Insurance Women’s Convention. Because of its success, the CAIW Convention was held in Montreal in 1978; 1990 and 2003. In 2011, the M.A.I.W. will proudly be hosting the National Convention under the Leadership of Ms Denise Hamel and Ms Annie Arsenault, co-chairmen for this Convention.Further, six of M.A.I.W.’s Past Presidents were elected President of the Canadian Association of Insurance Women. Said Presidents were: Mildred Jones (1969-1971); Dorothy Jeffery (1975-1976); Ghislaine Perron (1981-1982); Patricia Markey (1987-1988); Francine Bertrand (1995-1996); Louise Morel (2000-2001) and Michèle Malo (2006-2007).

The achievements and success obtained by the M.A.I.W., the devotion of its Members, the place it occupies and the unity that prevails for more than 30 years gives the Association solid ground on which it can rely on for tomorrow's success.
